Robert Schumann is one of the most important composers of the 21st century. A modern local man. Many of his colleagues no doubt wrote more elegantly, were more successful and perhaps even more talented. Yet none of them has left their mark on so many areas of life, set signs and laid a fuse to future times. All we can do is make every possible effort to follow this man's example. The declared aim of the Schumannfest Düsseldorf is to discover the Schumann in us all. I am certain that, in his typical quiet manner, he would have been delighted to see that such international stars as David Garrett, Hilary Hahn, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Igor Levit, Vesselina Kasarova, Vladimir Fedoseyev and many, many others bow to the memory of this man and his romanticism.

That they do so reflects their respect. And support: On behalf of all concerned and all visitors to the Schumannfest Düsseldorf, may I thank our patrons and sponsors who have accompanied the festival on its special Schumann path. Let us look forward together to a new festival season with unforgettable moments and memorable impressions far removed from classical concerts.

Be romantic!
